I’m a big fan of flowers and greenery and anything that isn’t bare branches against a grey gloomy sky. The first buds on the trees in the spring always get me all excited in an incredibly dorky don’t you have better things to squeal about? kind of way. I can’t help it. Everything seems new in spring and new is exciting.
Once we have a warm week or two (which we’ve finally had here in New York) I get itching to have flowers everywhere. Samantha does too. “When are we gardening? Can we garden yet? Is it still so cold at night that it will kill all of our flowers? Flowers! Flowers! Flowers!” Ease up off me, kid!
My problem is not that I don’t love flowers. Obviously, I do. My problem is that I have a black thumb and whether it’s too cold or not, they will die. My problem is my memory, really. I never remember to water them. And I always seem to forget that the spot on our deck where I really want to put them is incredibly sunny and when I forget to water them, they bake. And then a lot of tender loving care is required. And ain’t nobody got time for that.
But I’m a sucker and I have a soft spot for the things and for my daughter’s excitement over them and for seriously cute gardening tools.

I mean, seriously. How cute is this stuff?! In case you can’t tell, I can’t get enough of big, bright, bold colors and stripes at the moment. And I love that the big girl and little girl supplies I found have a similar, fun aesthetic. Alice Supply Co. for the the moms and Melissa & Doug for the kids seems to be where it’s at (and no, I didn’t get paid to say that, though I’d be more than happy to 
).
I also threw in some fun pieces for the kids because everyone knows that if you’re going to garden like a mother you’re going to need distractions. Sidewalk chalk, giant bubble wands, and a magnifying glass would go over very well in my girls’ book. And if it’s good in my girls’ book, you can bet your butt it’s good in mine because it means I just bought myself a little more time.
